1 Thessalonians 5:5-11
5 For you are all children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness. 6 So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober. 7 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, are drunk at night. 8 But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation. 9 For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 who died for us so that whether we are awake or asleep we might live with him. 11 Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.
So much our lives are influenced by the outside world making subtle attacks against our faith, ourselves and morals. It can seem as thiugh a simple drink out with friends may look innocent on the outside but alwaya remember you are an ambassador to Christ. Someone is always watching and that one drink could prevent them from speaking to you because they may have a drinking problem. And the fact they know of you and how you didnt drink before they felt they could come to you for help. This scenario plays out in many ways but is the meat of where the Holy Spirit lead me to write this to you. We are children of the day, sons and daughters of God. The last role models left that doesnt need advertising endorsements for us to speak. We don’t do it out of agenda or popularity. We do it because of love. The same love that saved us by the grace of God and sacrifice of our Lord Jesus. I know its tough tp stay on the straight and narrow but just look at that very statement. Straight and Narrow. The narrow road, the road in which we know we must walk as Christian. The road to salvation is a road few will travel and isnt easy. But with Jesus we can walk down that road with confidence and show others how to do so as well. This is why we stay sober. This is why we are urged to be vigilant. Because we are the example of what forgiveness looks like in the flesh. We are the example of what a joyful life, an anxiety lessened life, a justified life personifies. Hard to do If we are drinking of the world and not of the living water. Stay focused even when you feel as though you can let your guard down even for a second. Know that the enemy is waiting. From the forces of darkness to the very sins that still dwells in us, stay focused. We can overcome in the name of Jesus.
